A consultation has been launched by Ofcom to proposed changes to the procedures for investigating breaches of broadcast licences.
Do you think these proposed changes will help broadcasters?
Ofcom looks after the broacast licences for TV and radio services throughout the UK and as part of this they grant broadcasting licences with specific conditions.
These are enforced using Ofcom's general procedures, which were last updated in April 2017. Over the last 7 years, the broadcast landscape has changed and Ofcom are proposing several changes to how they investigate potential breaches.
Complaints will be need to be made within a certain time limit and complainants will no longer be directly informed of the outcome of the Ofcom assessments.
A new more detailed administrative priorities framework is proposed to be published and a Ofcom's position on sharing information about complaints with the broadcaster will be clarified.
The aim is to restructure, simplify and clarify the process to make them easier to follow.
Have your say by responding to the consultation via the Ofcom website by Tuesday 25th February 2025.
