Community radio stations are set to benefit from simplified requirements following a consultation to shake up the key commitments
Have you found the previous key commitments for your community radio station too much?
The feedback from the recent Ofcom consultation about community radio key commitments has helped Ofcom shake up what is required from each station.
The modified key commitments will have specific quotas removed, including the number of hours of original output, number of hours of locally produced output and types of programming.
Stations that broadcast in non-English languages will have these languages specified in the character of their service.
There are also plans to develop some additional off-air social gain requirements, which Ofcom hope will help provide further guidance to licensees when considering whether they are complying with their key committments.
Ofcom is now writing to all analouge community radio licensees to start the formal licence variation process and propose new draft character of service description.
